Aaron Ramsey is a player which is difficult to categorise, he is not a super star, he never is very prolific, against Liverpool he was quite random and indisciplined, yet against Chelsea he was subdued yet effective. He or me is someone who is always ‘upcoming’ and we Arsenal fans for long time have this notion that this will be his season, every season, deja vu. Some of his strikes are phenomenal, and when he moves forward he is at times sublime, yet it is not someone on whom you can consistently rely upon.
This season, Ramsey has been moving a lot, I mean a lot, the miles covered must be second to none, and he is always in the vicinity of the ball, making those runs into the box. In recent matches he is increasing making the gesture of raising both of his arms up, and he is constantly demanding the ball, and especially if he is in the box, he wants to ball, and when he does not get it, he shows of his frustration by raising his hands
yet, somehow his gesture and showing of frustration is different than what Alexis Sanchez did towards the end of last season, and the key difference is post the incident reaction, Ramsey’s game does not drop after showing his frustration, in way Alexis has a tendency to drop a bit of pace and movement when he is frustrated, and it takes a really good pass from Ozil or someone to get him into the groove again, however Ramsey recovers in the next instant and is ready to make another run the very next second, somehow it reminds me of a street player, one of those types, who just like having the ball at their feet, and they like to move with the ball, and score goals. Ramsey in a way is like that street boy who wants to run the game with the ball at his feet, and plus point is that he professional enough to make a selfless pass when there is a goal chance. That is in some ways striking.
However this is also his shortcoming, because when the ball is not with him, he is unable to run the game, like in the Liverpool encounter, without the ball, he is a bit lost, Unlike let’s say a Viera who would have controlled the midfield with or without the ball, Ramsey needs the ball. In high focus games like the one at Chelsea, which super concentration, he managed to maintain distance between the back line and also the other midfielder, Gunner fans hope that he applies himself in the same way against other teams.
The other thing of Ramsey is that hope factor, he was after all the part of the crowd that was supposed to make the next gen heavyweights of Arsenal, part of the Fabregas, Walcott, Nasri, Wilshire, Gibbs, package, where each one of them was looked upon as the next superstar at Arsenal, and yet unfortunately for the club, they have withered away, injuries, drop in form, mistakes at crucial junctures, have seen Arsenal get disappointed, Ramsey is in the same bracket, and maybe initially was the lowest ranked amongst them, yet somehow he has persevered, overcome injuries, and is still trying to push in, so for fans the hope is still alive that he will achieve his full potential and become a fuller player.
as I said before, this just may be the season of Aaron Ramsey
