DIALOGUES IN ASTROLOGY 09: Follow up on Birth Time

The previous article and especially the incisive comments on it, got me thinking about birth charts. We understand that we have an ambiguity of exact brith time. However, let’s consider a situation.

Two people are born in the same city, same day, same time, and let’s say the same hospital, then by all accounts they will have the same birth chart, so will their astrological readings differ?

And, they need not be born in the same hospital, for certain period of time, the planets are steady in the chart. I mean planets are continuously moving, however with the whole concept of moving 30 degrees before they change place on a birth chart. Also, like one of subscribers Nitin, posed in his comment, for a certain geographical co-ordinates, or simply for a certain square miles area, the picture of the sky above us will remain same. So for a certain area, and a certain time, persons born will have the same birth chart, a reasonable conclusion I feel. Then how do we differentiate between the two astrologically?

This ties is nicely with the next point I want to make. The planets and position are fixed, I mean their number is fixed, and hence there is only a fixed number of permutations or combinations (whichever of the two prioritizes arrangement) possible. With six plus billion people currently and let’s say over 14 billion people that have walked this earth thus far, there is a considerable probability that two people end up with the same birth chart. It could be historically, that one persons birth chart today, matches someone who walked this earth five hundred years ago, or it could be in the current time itself, that someone from India and another person from Africa have the same birth chart. The point I am getting to. is what happens in such a case ? Will the life paths be same, albeit circumstances are different today, society is different, still, will the larger trajectory of life be same? This is crucial as there is a certain stream of astrology, or rather astrologers who tell a person that you have the same ‘yog’ as this ‘king’ had five hundred years ago, and thus you will also… I think you get the gist. How much of this is valid?

Also, I have seen some charts which mention the exact degrees on a planet, and make a distinction on whether a planet is entering a house, is in the middle of the house, or exiting the house. Though, I must admit, I have never seen a practicing astrologer use such precision. Do these factors have an effect on the astrological reading?

whether you believe in astrology or not, I think everyone should have these questions. Because as mentioned in the last article, if the foundation, the birth chart itself should be free of ambiguity before we proceed further. Then, you can make an educated argument about astrology, either way, the believer way or the non believer way !

Nice Article,, I also wondered we care about planets in charts because maybe we could observe them. Stars form the nakshatras that we can see. However, with modern technology, we can see far more no of celestial bodies, not just the planets added in the last century, but far more comets, stars, etc. Do we see a trend of adopting them into our charts system. And what about black holes, in physics they signify so much, I wonder if the concept was known or accounted for in the time vedas
