Qarib Qarib Singlle
Single with a double ‘L’ (ironically double a is highlighting it!) is a very light hearted film. Nothing in the movie, is deep, nor does the movie pretend. Everything in the film is incomplete, the journey, the interactions with other characters, the catharsis that the character of Parvathy has is abrupt. The end seems disjointed, we all know where the destination is, however the road is not there, so you just run randomly through the landscape to just about reach there.
They key thing I need to mention here is that, watching the movie at mere 90 rupees a ticket, getting that full multiplex experience, with a lighthearted film, is good returns for your money. Typically if the movie is in its second week and is just having 1 odd screening a day, then the movie is for someone who is with nothing else left to watch, and still wants to get into the theater. The choices were between Kadvi Hawa and Singlle, and I was not in a particular mood to watch a serious movie, so Singlle made good sense!.
The role played if Irffan Khan !!!!! (double f)
If you are not able to watch this movie Singlle, then watch the video below. Qarib Qarib Singlle is a Qarib Qarib knock off or you can say an expansion on the idea of Irffan Khan’s role in Life in a Metro!. The same plot of Konkana Sen and Irffan, which was one of the intertwined stories in Metro, is taken and converted into a stand alone movie.

Konkana Sen is Singlle, here its Parvathi!. The role of Irffan Khan is same, a character which peppers his speech, with a rustic hindi tone, mixed with English sentences here and there, and a touch of philosophy here and there. His appearance is deliberately made to appear as out of touch, quirky, with those confused eyes.
The only saving grace for the movie is the comic timing of both characters. The scene where Irffan Khan manages to enter the wrong train is hilarious, and his expressions when called a ‘Mamu’ do knock you of your chair. However it does not reach the same heights in freakishness as Aamir Khan did in Secret Superstar. Some moments, that make it a light watch, fun, but nothing beyond it.
The ending does not deliver a punch, in life in a metro, the events around Kokana Sen, create a tension, that makes the change in heart of the character believable. In Singlle, that tension is absent, making the turn feel slightly superficial.
