Since in the last review of Ishq, we focused on a particular quirk in the movie, this movie has one gem in it, which again is easy to miss, it is from Johnny Lever in the first half hour of the movie, he get’s into one of his fits and approaches Dande, a sub-inspector, and goes ” are dande, tu toh kehta hai sab inspector hai, lekin tu toh akela hi inspector hai Dande” , nice shift from sub to sab to make a quirky joke..
The movie is filled with slapstick associated with the franchise, the trailer joke of father-figure, is extended nicely with rhymes on Patni – Beti – Bhoot . One amazing scene has to be Kunal Khemu running up the stairs, only to realise it is a painting of the stairs, and the Nana Patekar voice usage is hilarious, it’s over the top and yet the movie manages to make a theme of the voice and ultimately Nana appears in a shot to cap of great trajectory
Well by now everyone knows that there is a Bhoot, ghost, and the real fun in the movie stays till the Ghost is revealed, which is funny in a way as it is not a suspense for the audience, but is a suspense for the characters, so it’s more fun to watch the acting of the characters as the Ghost is revealed, and you as an audience start to anticipate the reaction of the characters.
And not the mention, the actors show genuine comic surprise to make the watch more enjoyable
the movie is more effective when watched with a crowd, and the cinema hall adds effective background laughter for all the gags.
And as with the franchise, the movie does not try to create a deep plotline, or suspense or anything, it keeps things simple, right from the set which is just two adjacent buildings.
The only drawback of the movie is that once the Ghost is revealed the comic thing wears off, and the Director in an intelligent way has packed the major part of the movie around 70% pre-interval and post-interval very little is left, the second half pales in comparison with the first one, the jokes from Tabu like im, bhrim, cold cream, fall flat, maybe because the audience already had anticipated it from the trailer and unlike the father-figure joke, it is not extended further. The second half also sees a return of the character of Pandu, which seems unnecessary, and just to provide some gags, again of Ghost revealing nature.
The great aspect of the movie is its nonstreched climax, Niel Nitin Mukesh arrives and is done within next five mins.
So in summary, the movie has some quirks, and surely you might find some different quirk every time you watch it, but the movie is what it was supposed to be, a Diwali Dhamaka, catering to the family audience with lot’s of fun, peppy music. Kids are left literally bouncing off their seats.
